October Gold: Chasing Trophy Trout in the Roaring Fork Valley

It is October 15, 2026, and the air in the Roaring Fork Valley finally has that crisp bite that makes a guide's heart race. The crowds have thinned, the water temps have dropped, and the big browns are starting to get mean. If you are looking for trophy trout, this is your window. I have been spending my mornings dialing in the rigging on my new Clackacraft drift boat, and let me tell you, it is a machine for slicing through these late-season flows. Whether you are stripping streamers for aggressive browns or delicately dropping a Blue Winged Olive pattern into a soft riffle, the fishing right now is nothing short of world-class. Aspen area fly fishing is all about reading the water; you have to put the fly right on their noses. I have been leaning on my Sage fly fishing setups this week, pairing them with Hardy fly fishing reels to handle the violent takes we are seeing. The Roaring Fork is fishing exceptionally well from the upper stretches near Aspen down through the technical water in Basalt and Carbondale, ending with the deep, moody pools before the confluence in Glenwood Springs. If you want a thrill, the Colorado River below Grizzly Creek is holding some absolute monsters right now, and the Eagle River stretch above Gypsum is giving up some heavy rainbows if you know how to work the seams. I love taking groups out this time of year, especially those bachelor or bachelorette parties looking for a unique Colorado adventure. There is nothing like a scenic float fishing trip to bond the crew before the wedding chaos begins. If you are ready to stop looking at screens and start feeling the weight of a fish on the line, let us get out there. I have got the knowledge, the drift boat, and the experience to get you into the kind of fish that keep you awake at night. Stop making excuses and book a guided trip with Aspen Angling Company today. I am Woody Kiehl, and I will see you on the water.
